Your time is valuable, and in many situations, it is possible for your lawyer to attend the majority of your court appearances on your behalf. Often times in misdemeanor cases, your attorney only needs to appear in order to ask for an extension of time called a continuance. A continuance allows your attorney to continue negotiations with the prosecutor, complete a thorough investigation of your case and conduct interviews and have their legal team examine the evidence against you in full.
