If you have been charged with a misdemeanor crime in Arizona I strongly recommend that you seek legal counsel with an experienced criminal defense attorney.  Forms of misdemeanor crimes include DUI, assault, criminal trespass and shoplifting. These charges can carry some serious repercussions including up to six months in jail time and  fines.

3 levels of misdemeanor crimes in Arizona

Class 1 misdemeanor

A class 1 misdemeanor is the most serious misdemeanor offense and is punishable by up to 6 months in jail, 3 years of probation (5 years maximum probation for DUI offenses) and a $2,500 fine plus surcharges. Some of the most common class 1 misdemeanor offenses include DUI, driving on a suspended license, assault, disorderly conduct, criminal damage, shoplifting and theft.

Class 3 misdemeanor

A class 3 misdemeanor is the lowest criminal offense, but still can carry severe punishments including a maximum of 30 days in jail, 1 year of probation and a $500 fine plus surcharges. Your time is valuable, and in many situations, it is possible for your lawyer to attend the majority of your court appearances on your behalf. Often times in misdemeanor cases, your attorney only needs to appear in order to ask for an extension of time called a continuance. A continuance allows your attorney to continue negotiations with the prosecutor, complete a thorough investigation of your case and conduct interviews and have their legal team examine the evidence against you in full.
