According to The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com Phoenix area police arrested over 4000 people for DUI and extreme between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. The DUI arrests have increased over the last three years. Between January 1, 2012 and January 1, 2013 over 27,000 people were arrested for DUI in the Phoenix area. What is astonishing is that the number of extreme DUI's have also increased. Extreme DUI is when someone's blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is over a .15.

  • Punishment for a first time extreme DUI .15 - .19 is 30 days in jail.
  • Punishement for a first time super extreme DUI .20 and above is 45 days in jail.
